Wouldn’t it make more sense to believe that Morty is spiraling down the same path to Evil Morty. The backstory and all the clues up to this point were warnings of eventually makes Morty assertive and choose for himself while “caring” for Rick as much as he can. But unlike Evil Morty who saw it as Rick vs Morty, it’s Rick vs himself and he can be there for him but he can’t help him..
