@offenceregister: LUKMAN AND HUSSAIN LUTON HISTORIC CHILD RAPE In February 2020, Emdadul Lukman, then 47, of Hastings, East Sussex, and Jakhir Hussain, then 37, of Burgess Hill, West Sussex, were sentenced at St Albans Crown Court to a combined 36 years in prison. Following a two-week criminal trial, a unanimous jury found both serial predators guilty of multiple counts of historic rape and incitement against a young girl. DOMESTIC GROOMING AND DELAYED JUSTICE An investigation conducted by Bedfordshire Police established that the abuse occurred nearly twenty years prior in Luton, while both men were staying as guests at the young victim's family home. Lukman and Hussain executed a calculated, collaborative grooming process, manipulating the child by playing board games and buying her sweets and gifts to mask their actions. They utilized their domestic proximity to clandestinely violate her trust over an extended period. The ordeal remained hidden until February 2018, when the victim, having reached adulthood, found the courage to disclose the trauma to her family, prompting an immediate police investigation and the arrest of both men. ST ALBANS CROWN COURT CUSTODIAL SENTENCES At the conclusion of the trial, the full extent of the defendants' predatory campaign was laid bare. The jury found Lukman guilty of six counts of rape and two counts of incitement, while Hussain was convicted of three counts of rape and three counts of incitement. The sentencing judge emphasized that the passage of time would not protect those who destroy a child's safety. Hussain was jailed for 20 years, and Lukman was sentenced to 16 years in prison. Both were also placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life. STATUS AND CASE DETAILS Legal Status: CONVICTED (Rape of a child under 13 and incitement to engage in sexual activity). Custodial Status: SERVING (Hussain sentenced to 20 years; Lukman sentenced to 16 years). Sex Offenders Register: Notification requirements are active FOR LIFE for both offenders. Judicial Oversight: Sentenced at St Albans Crown Court; investigated by Bedfordshire Police. Origin: Luton, Bedfordshire (Later residing in East and West Sussex). 💬 WHAT DO YOU THINK? Given that these two offenders used the hospitality of a family home to groom and abuse a child guest, do you believe the law should impose mandatory minimum 25-year terms for multi-perpetrator historic child abuse, regardless of how much time has passed?
