We used to do that for vacations. Whatever the kids saved for spending money on vacation we would double. But then they controlled how they spent it. If it was gone day 1, there was no more money coming.

Would you try/recommend the "one cookie now, or two cookies in awhile," experiment? (don't recall which university did this.) i.e. allowing them to spend, but telling them, you will double it by summer's end? - love the show!

Instead of spending on Amazon my mom had a treasure box full of goodies and we would use our money to “buy it” and that way the money goes back in their pocket and we learned about money at the same time
