@roberthatis: working hard and playing the game are two very different things y'all ever been passed over for someone less qualified? #corporatehumor #worklife #9to5 #officepolitics #relateable
Nope, I realised this right away. I just refused to be a corporate bootlicker constantly kissing ass, call me naive but I’d rather stay true to myself at the bottom of the ladder than compromise my principles at the top of it.

in my team, if you don't have kids, you aren't in the 'in crowd' and cosy with the boss...my hopes of promotion are close to zero

No it’s because I never call off unless I need it. I’m constantly covering shifts and doing extra stuff while I’m there and learned on my first day how to simply check the list for what needs to get done

The corporate ladder gets a lot less impressive once you realize networking and performance aren’t always scored on the same rubric. 👀

I’m a manger I always promote the hard workers who prove themselves , I then maybe become more friendly with some of them as we’re working closer in a team x

I made myself so irreplaceable that they tried to fire me twice in the last 4 years and they couldn't🤣 they would need 2 or more people for them to do my job.

Of course not every work place and each story is different, but people need to realize the value of those soft skills as well. It's what gives certain people the edge when the measurable skill sets are "equal" and at times how well someone is liked/team dynamic is given more weight when the hard skills are somewhat lacking.

Working harder vs working smarter..end of the day which is going to get you paid more and further in a capitalistic society

Yep, management didn't notice the work I did behind the scenes. Nobody knew anything when I left and all went downhill in that department. I had the regional manager contact me to come back

I would argue being likeable overall is in itself a talent and testament to hard work 👀

Most of the time it’s not what you know ( how good you are) it’s about who you know ( the relationships you have)
