Treatment should always be considered first but it's often done way too late.

Worked over 10 years in jails and law enforcement. The powers to be don’t want to reduce crime in general. Jails are absolutely horrible for people with mental illnesses.

CASE BY CASE. If someone’s mental illness has a high probability of being successfully treated through therapy without incarceration, then give that person a chance. If someone’s illness makes them a serious risk to others and society, then other measures may need to be taken to not only protect the community, but that specific individual as well.

Many people are put into prisons; instead of addressing each individuals particular needs. PROGRAMS ARE THE ANSWER. To those with Mental Problems , AS WELL as Those Who are Arrested for Drug Offenses. Rehabilitation is much more desirable for them, instead of punishment; they are suffering enough with their tormented illness. PRISONS ARE NOT THE ANSWER.💙💙💙

Ive always said our prisons wouldn't be overflowing if non violent offenders who truly are mentally ill are sentenced to some sort of supervised mental health care instead of prisons

American prison is a multi-billion for profit business. Until the Ep-class behind them is incarcerated themselves its not gonna change. But there's a glimmer of hope if there's a progressive takeover in Nov
