You are amazing, why don’t you join a university as senior lecturer and become a professor in General practice.

A&G = just a quick specialist opinion — like asking “what would you do?” before deciding
GP remains in charge: if after reading the advice they still believe you need a hospital referral, they can and must send it — no one can overrule them.what that means you need competent GP.

I already suffer because of that. My GP tried to use the ‚so called’ guide for an advice regarding a medication change because I rely on a private care. So they made a referral informing me that the professional „may/may not contact me”. I chase up the hospital where the referral was sent and I wrote an email that there is no my permission that someone interfere my treatment behind my back. I explained the situation, who is the main professional leading my case(no NHS specialist, no GP) included contact details etc. I highlighted that I expect cooperation and I already made my decision about treatment update whereas the NHS failed to address when needed.

But whats the point of the referral if hospital is just pushing back with advice only?? One might as well just get assistance from AI at this rate

Don’t call me Dr, Mister… :
It’s to stop the poor standards of referrals from GPs, junior drs training as GPs and the plethora of locums. Long overdue, as secondary care , DGHs and Regional services cannot cope with primary care service issues, just because standards in primary care are so low

Insane how if there were more specialists, the referral system would actually work.

The best Drs have all left my GP surgery, I was wondering why they all left one after another but listening to everything I can see why, every single day there is no one in. No matter how many times I phone up at 8 am I’m turned away no appointments, it’s just going more and more downhill. It’s frustrating

It’s so sad that the best interests of patients have been traded off for politics. As if by magic waiting lists will go down! GP’s can’t refer their patients on and patients get so tired of being in constant pain they seek private care. The effect incredibly damaging for patients and their GP’s but hey waiting lists are down … as promised 😳

9 years ago, I had severe eczema, the GP referred me to a dermatologist and a week later the demarologist prescribed me a steroid that a GP could not. that Steroid cream saved my life. since April it has been an absolute mess (unrelated to eczema) but for ENT its a nightmare. imagine if I had the severe eczema now, I would have been close to death waiting for a dermatologist
