Everyone is asking when I'm getting a "real job" but I clean at a hospital. If my job disappeared we would see the affects within the first hour, I dont understand how my job isn't "real" and why I'm not paid enough to comfortably continue doing this.

I'm a manager at a dollar store. I only make 50 cents above my state's minimum wage. Our store has had to close these past few weeks because our AC is out. I've been here 2 years and the AC has never worked. A billion dollar company can't even fix our air, but they just installed speakers for music 🤦

Am I the only one who had a teacher who told me straight up, social security won’t be there for you when you’re able to actually use it and you might have a good paying job at some point but it’ll never be enough and work/life balance doesn’t exist in the same sentence as being financially secure.
