I think people are ignoring the fact that back in the day, we were ignorant to the freedom of the internet. These children have grown up with that freedom and to have that stripped away suddenly without any access to something that is so ingrained in their day-to-day for their social lives, for their education, etc is difficult. Imagine waking up one day without the ability to walk after being able to walk your entire life. It’d be pretty difficult adapting to that life, wouldn’t it?

During lockdown, social media was a lifeline for young people - keeping in touch, learning and keeping sane. It is a big part of their life and the Government is taking it away from them is what is the most ill-informed decision they have made to date. They will just end up finding other less-regulated ways to communicate.

what people dont get is that the government seriously underfunds areas such as leisure centres, malls, and places where adults nowadays used to hang out before phones, theyre all shutting down and theres nowhere for kids to go. not only that, but the sheer level of surveillance and security makes it difficult for kids to even breathe even if heyve done nothing wrong, like ive been kicked out of malls and parks for simply holding my skateboard, and even when im just with mates weve had police called for being too loud, the government wanted us to be obsessed with tech in the first place to earn more money, and now that its for some reason not working in theyr favour, theyre stripping away any form of enrichment for the youth.

Just to let all the adults know, we (as Gen Z) know that they’re things to do outside of our phones. We just don’t wanna do those things / be forced into doing them just because the things we do wanna do are band. if you’re going to take away the fun from our phones, at least make life more entertaining like a third space for kids/ teens which hardly exist anymore 🫰🏽
