@drjoedamiani: Jaw pain? It might actually be your upper neck! Many people with dizziness spend all their time stretching muscles, getting massages, or chasing vertigo treatments — but sometimes the real issue is poor control of the upper neck. 💡 What’s happening? The muscles at the top of the neck help control the position of your head and provide important information to your balance system. When these muscles lose control, surrounding nerves and blood vessels can become irritated, contributing to dizziness, headaches, and neck pain. 🔥 Why this matters The goal isn’t just to make these muscles looser — it’s to retrain how they move. If the middle and lower neck keep compensating, the upper neck never learns how to do its job properly. 🛠️ Exercises to improve upper neck control 1.) Upper neck extension Place a towel behind the middle of your neck and gently look upward using only the upper neck. Avoid pushing into the towel. 2.) Chin-down rotations Drop your chin toward your chest and slowly rotate side to side. This helps isolate movement to the upper neck while reducing compensation from lower segments. 3.) Upper neck side bending Place your fingers on the sides of your neck and perform a very small side tilt. The movement should be subtle and come from the upper neck only. Improving upper neck control can help reduce the compensations that contribute to dizziness, headaches, and neck tension. #dizziness #neckpain #headache #mobility #physicaltherapy

Looking up/curving my upper neck near the skull has always been something that can trigger migraines for me, so I’ve always avoided it; but after a whiplash injury last year I’ve had a lot of POTS-like symptoms that seem to be related to my upper neck. I know I’ve been unconsciously guarding the area pretty bad since the injury, but I’m scared to do stretches like this and trigger a migraine
