I get what you’re trying to say about people needing to put effort into school, but calling people stupid is doing too much. Not everybody who struggles with school is depressed or mentally ill, but that doesn’t mean they’re lazy or dumb either. Some people are overwhelmed, behind, dealing with stuff at home, working, burnt out, or just don’t know how to get back on track. You can encourage people to do better without insulting them.
