The way we see God shapes the way we see everything else. If our view of God is distorted, our view of life will be distorted too. We may see His correction as rejection. His timing as absence. His holiness as harshness. His boundaries as punishment. His silence as abandonment. His commands as restriction instead of protection. But God is not defined by our wounds, our assumptions, our emotions, or the culture around us. God is who He says He is. He is holy. He is righteous. He is merciful. He is faithful. He is sovereign. He is just. He is love. He is truth. And when we begin to see Him rightly, we begin to see everything else more clearly. We see sin differently. We see grace differently. We see obedience differently. We see suffering differently. We see ourselves differently. We see others differently. We see eternity differently. A correct view of God does not make us prideful. It makes us humble. It brings us to reverence. It leads us to repentance. It teaches us surrender. It anchors us in truth. It reminds us that God is not created in our image, we were created in His. Before we ask God to change everything around us, we may need to ask Him to correct what is within us. Our perspective. Our theology. Our desires. Our motives. Our understanding of who He truly is. Because when God is seen rightly, everything else begins to come into proper order. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
