Getting paid to sleep just became a reality as contestants in Tokyo competed for a top prize of around $14,000 in Japan's first competitive sleep contest. Dubbed the 'Matt Race,' the unusual event saw around 75 people fitted with brain-wave monitoring devices before being given 90 minutes to achieve the deepest, fastest and most stable sleep. Their performances were turned into an overall sleep score, with the highest-scoring contestant taking home the grand prize while the runner-up received around $1,400. The competition was organized by Koala Mattress to spotlight Japan's sleep deprivation problem, with organizers hoping the unusual event would encourage people to take getting enough rest more seriously. #japan #news #sleep #viral #competition
