A lady here said fear is a realm, Adam had entered that realm hence God asked where he was. He was trying to make Adam realise that he has left God's Devine realm and entered another one ruled by fear. It made sense based on the number of times the Bible states do not be afraid.

I feel like he wanted to see if he’d tell him the truth even though he already knew that he knew … Because i feel like god sometimes asks us questions not to only see if we’d tell him the truth but if we’d be truthful to ourselves..

I believe God asked Adam where are you, not because he didn’t know where he was at but for Adam to reach out to him. The relationship with God is what God always wanted us to have with him. So when we hide , God is always there. Just we are the ones who hide like Adam. He just wants a relationship with us.
