the teenage experience used to be "microdosing adulthood". best example is walking the mall. you get to practice independence and feel "grown up" by deciding where you go, what you buy, how long you stay, etc

I distinctly remember going to the mall as a teenager and getting Taco Bell and it was $1.35/taco, so I could have something to eat for under $3 (this was in 2015 so it’s not like it was 40 years ago)

When I was in high school for back to school my mom would give me $100-$150 with the expectation that I would get a number of outfits for the year, including some shoes and jewelry. This was 15 years ago. These days $150 hardly buys shit unless it’s all SHEIN

My boyfriend brought his friend to the movies. It cost $40. That’s 3 hours of work before tax at his above minimum wage job. Movie was half as long as it would take to work to go to the movie
