It is when the most senior Knights and Ladies in the country gather with the Royal Family for a service at St George’s Chapel. The Order of the Garter is the oldest and most senior order of chivalry and its members, who are appointed by the Sovereign, include former prime ministers and former heads of the military and secret services.
