@sheldricktrust: Wild dogs are born to move. This female was first spotted with a snare around her torso several weeks ago – but as wild dogs do, she remained on the go. After the initial sighting, our ground and aerial teams combed the landscape. We were able to locate the pack’s den site and kept close watch on the area. Finally, Roan spotted her returning home from a hunt. This video shows what happened after that sighting. The northern part of Tsavo is marked by very dense bush, so the helicopter shepherded the whole pack to an open area, where Dr Limo of the SWT/KWS Tsavo Mobile Vet Unit was waiting to dart her. Wild dogs are incredible animals. The snare had been slicing into her body for a long time, but still she supported her pack and went out to hunt. In partnership with the Kenya Wildlife Service, it was a privilege to support her in her hour of need.
