I retired from the army in 2021. I have PMP with black belt. Retirement, disability, and a six figure is very nice. I no longer look at the prices on the menu.

The key is landing that first IT job. My first role paid $30/hr, and six months later I was making $50/hr as a SysAdmin. Getting my Security+ certification and already having a Secret clearance from the military is what helped me land that first opportunity. I’ve stayed with my current employer for five years because the flexibility and work-life balance are hard to beat.

I had so many schools and certifications when I retired if I listed them all people would think I was lying. Even now I have two masters degrees but at the end of the day, being retired and 100% T & P I’m good where I’m at, even after being retired as an E-2. Work, what’s that??

Certificates are just as valuable as degrees and probably more so now. Also don’t get certified in things that AI can do!

Greay certs to have but do your research, each one has their own requirements and are not easy. I studied a year for my PMP. He is right, great to have them but do your research for sure. you have to start early.

If you are taking those Lean Six Sigma classes without an ATRRs reservation don’t bother submitting your certs to Ippsa because S1 can’t put them on your STP without an ATRRs reservation saying you graduated the course

I’ve been trying to get Soldiers at all ranks to get that PMP and LSS for so many years and I run into more excuses than I can even keep up with. Get up an hour or two earlier and stay up a bit later and it’s definitely possible.
