@blackinformationnetwork: David Oyelowo has apologized after facing backlash for suggesting that Southern Black dialect developed from slavery-era subservience. In a recent podcast interview, the Selma actor made the remarks while demonstrating accents, suggesting that slowing a Nigerian accent and adding “a lot of slavery” would produce a similar speech pattern. The backlash was swift, with some people offering grace while others called the claim inaccurate and incredibly offensive. Click LINK IN BIO for the full story. (🎥: X/one54africa)

Nobody’s calling this out for what it really is. David was clearly triggered by the Druiski skit so instead of addressing that directly, he took it out on Black Americans. Because we’re always the punchline, right??? He apologized, but what he didn't do is say he was incorrect. So no, that was not a proper apology.

How can the black American accent come from Nigerian accent when both a result of colonialism in two separate places. And one is probably older than the other, which is the after

This is the problem we have as American blacks with people from the continent. This gentleman here because he does not respect the American black dollar is making this statement with his full chest because he thinks he will not be harmed financially because the YT establishment accepts him and he does not care if the American black does or does not he would have never made this statement about YT Americans and thought he was going to keep his career.

This explanation makes no sense literally slaves all over the Americas… all with different accents based on who enslaved them. Jamaican accent came from Irish indentured workers teach by then English, Dominican slaves had Spanish accents Haitian French and so forth .. American came from whites who were former British
