couldnt agree more with every word you said, knowing how to make the drinks is one thing but understand everything that goes into it is completely different and that is what makes you a craft cocktails bartender or "mixologist"

I truly cannot stand when someone asks if I’m a mixologist. No. I’m not. I’m a bartender. Yes I’ve come up with recipes for cocktails that were featured on a menu and yes if I don’t have certain ingredients for what the customer wants, I can do my best to compensate. No. I’m not a mixologist. I’m a bartender and I’m confident with my flavor palette. But I am just a bartender.

Only thing I disagree with is the “any self respecting bartender wouldn’t call themselves a mixologist.” Fact is they aren’t the same thing. A mixologist is someone who specializes in cocktails and entertaining patrons. A bartender can do it, but doesn’t specialize and doesn’t focus so much on the entertainment part of the job.

Very well said and in my opinion the word mixologist doesn’t encapsulate the hospitality that a bartender must have. People don’t just go to great bars for the drinks, they go for service and personality as well

We say mixologist because we do primarily craft cocktails of our own design, making the infusions, syrups, shrubs, etc all in house. It feels like an earned title for all the extra work.

what do you offer? a cocktail book? website with videos? and how much does it cost. been bartending for 2 months now, with no previous experience, not even cocktailing. lol. I'm getting the measurements down and for the most part they're all remixes of the same ingredients. price points are the same at this casino. but I dont know where things are made from, why liqueurs are what they are, why gin mixes better with tonic. all kinds of small questions like that. so im interested
