There was a sci-fi show named Logan's Run that was based on a movie of the same name. It only lasted one season. There was also Blue Thunder with the helicopter that was based on the movie of the same name. It only lasted 11 episodes. Buck Rogers in the 25th Century was first released as a movie, then became a TV show later that same year, 1979, and ran for 2 seasons.

@Dfloyd4908: Happy Days and American Graffiti are “closely” related. HD pilot was already filmed when Ron Howard was cast in AG. While HD was not technically “based” on AG, the similarities are obvious.

I lived for FAME the movie, TV show and even went to see the concert touring show that had Janet Jackson in it. I wanted to go to that HS so badly that in 12 grade I only needed an ELA class to graduate and made all my other ones arts elective classes to make my own performing arts program. I teach at an Arts school today. 😁

The Happy Days pilot was an episode of Love American Style. Love and the Television Set later retitled Love and the Happy Days. It's available to watch for free on YouTube.
