@plantwave: In a friend's back yard in Kauaʻi, we climbed a coconut palm and recorded the bioelectric signals of a young green coconut still on the tree. Across the tropics this tree is called the tree of life. People in the equatorial belt have been using every part of it for thousands of years. The water inside the young green coconuts is drink, the meat inside the older brown ones is food, the husk becomes rope, the shell becomes a cup or a bowl, the leaves become roofs and baskets, the trunk becomes lumber, the flowers become sugar, the roots become medicine. A single palm can fruit for sixty or seventy years and feed a household across generations. We chose a soundset of human voices for this one. The coconut palm has lived alongside us for so long, and given us so much, that hearing it sing in something close to a human voice felt right. #coconut #healthyeating #naturalfood #naturelovers #peacefulplaces
