During the opening ceremony at Al Bayt Stadium, young Qatari World Cup ambassador Ghanim Al Muftah shared the stage with legendary actor Morgan Freeman and recited a verse from the Holy Qur’an. The verse, from Surah Al-Hujurat, reminded humanity that we were created as different nations and tribes so that we may come to know one another. Broadcast to a vast global audience, this beautiful message of unity, equality and mutual understanding introduced millions of people to the words of the Qur’an. For many Muslims, it was a deeply emotional and historic moment to hear a Qur’anic verse at one of the world’s largest sporting events. We may never know how many hearts were touched, how many people became curious about Islam, or how many began a personal journey towards faith after hearing those words. Qatar showed that it was possible to welcome the entire world while proudly preserving its Islamic and Arab identity. It transformed a football ceremony into a meaningful invitation to dialogue, respect and human brotherhood.
