lol. i feel like this has to be a mostly black/white expectation sometimes because as a black/tamil biracial girl that doesn’t fit a single beauty standard for either of my races or any other race for that matter i’ve just given up on caring whether or not i’m perceived as beautiful at all. it exhausts me to even look in the mirror. i just accept compliments as thinly veiled curiosity about my ethnicity and move along 😭🙏

Lewis used a sample of 1,205 Black, White, and mixed-race faces and found a small but statistically significant effect where mixed-race faces were rated as more attractive on average. Rhodes et al. (2005). “Attractiveness of Own-Race, Other-Race, and Mixed-Race Faces.” Published in Perception. This study found that mixed-race Caucasian/Japanese composite faces were rated as more attractive than own-race composites in multiple experiments. It also found Eurasian faces were rated as more attractive and healthier than Caucasian or Asian faces in one experiment. Little et al. (2012). “Mixed-Ethnicity Face Shape and Attractiveness in Humans.” Published in Perception. This study found that mixed-ethnicity face shapes were rated as more attractive than exaggerated single-ethnicity face shapes among both European and African participants. Sims, J. P. (2012). “Beautiful stereotypes: The relationship between physical attractiveness and mixed race identity.” Published in Identities: Global Studies in Culture and Power. This article is useful because it looks at the “Biracial Beauty Stereotype” in the U.S. and connects attractiveness ratings with mixed-race identity. Burke et al. (2013). “Is There an Own-Race Preference in Attractiveness?” Published in Evolutionary Psychology. This one is good because it complicates the claim. It discusses prior findings where mixed-race faces were rated more attractive, but also looks at whether people prefer faces from their own racial group. Curington, Lin, & Lundquist (2015). “Positioning Multiraciality in Cyberspace: Treatment of Multiracial Daters in an Online Dating Website.” Published in American Sociological Review. This is more about dating behavior than face ratings, but it found that some multiracial daters experienced a “dividend effect,” meaning certain multiracial groups received more favorable dating responses than some monoracial groups.

I’m biracial and I’d really hate to hear “mixed race people are better”… like idk why but it gives white supremacy but different and with less power behind it. That’s not the best way to word what I’m trying to say but I hope yall get what I mean. Like it just feels weird…

Scientifically proven” is not true. They are referencing one study that shows that if you tell someone the subject is mixed—even if they are monoracial—they will be deemed more attractive than monoracials, especially POC. That study is actually an example of colorism and fetishization and not any scientific basis in mixed people being superior or not.

Idk where you or the commenter live but a lot of people in the USA have mixed race ancestry so I always wonder how that plays a part in the American studies of who is more attractive. At the end of the day, attractiveness is so subjective.
