I think he likes that Mel was not sleeping in the room because he could do what he wants with Sol. And the only reason he pulled Mel for a chat was because Corbin said she was actually going to sleep in the room with him. He likes that she isn’t forming other connections and is a way “marking” that she is still sinceres by sleeping in soul ties.
