@jonaheisenschenk: I think one of the most underrated love languages is speaking kindly during conflict. Because anyone can be kind when things are easy. The real test comes when we’re frustrated, hurt, disappointed, misunderstood, or upset. When emotions are high. When tension is present. When we have every opportunity to let our words become weapons. And honestly, I think a lot of people confuse honesty with harshness. They confuse being direct with being disrespectful. But I don’t believe you have to sacrifice kindness in order to tell the truth. I think it’s possible to communicate clearly while still being compassionate. To disagree while still being respectful. To address a problem without attacking the person. Because at the end of the day, conflict is usually trying to solve a problem. Cruelty is trying to win. And those are very different things. There’s something deeply meaningful about being with someone who can remain thoughtful with their words even when emotions are running high. Someone who remembers that the goal isn’t to hurt each other. It’s to understand each other. Not perfectly. Not without difficult conversations. But with enough maturity and self awareness to recognize that how we communicate matters just as much as what we’re communicating.
