@theartcoach: Tap the link in my bio to start the drawing drills course. A snail shell looks complicated until you realize it’s mostly a spiral. That’s the beauty of simplified forms. Once you understand the underlying structure, the subject becomes much easier to draw. In this exercise, the spiral isn’t drawn just once. It’s practiced at different angles and points of view. It gets tilted, rotated, compressed, and stretched in perspective. That’s where real understanding happens. A lot of artists can copy a single image of a snail shell. Far fewer can rotate that form in their minds and draw it from imagination. The goal of the drills is to build that ability. Practice the simple forms. Rotate them in space. Understand how they behave. Then, when you encounter more complex subjects, you’re no longer memorizing objects. You’re constructing them from forms you already know.
