I know you’re a doctor and I respect that 100% but anecdotally I must disagree. If I take collagen today I literally notice a difference in my skin the very next day. No lie.

Doesn’t the collagen protein just get digested into base amino acids? I’ve never understood this. How much collagen actually survives digestion?

I’ve been taking collagen for 15 years. I have barely any wrinkles and I’m 48 and it also helps with my congenital joint issues so while i understand that there isn’t much science behind it (just like most stuff in skincare), don’t fix it if it ain’t broke for me.

I’m 50 and have started taking collagen to support bone and joint aches - it does make a difference. I’ve seen clinical studies that support its utility in skin health as well. Agree of course that sunb

Why would I block vitamin D receptors in my skin with sunscreen? That are chemicals that cause harm?

I had fat grafting on my face. All fat cells died. Spent thousands. What are the other options ? I had fat loss due to acne scars. Too young for face lift.

What I never see is how ingesting collagen compares to just injecting more protein in general which will also get broken down into peptides in the stomach and then amino acids in the sm intestines that are then absorbed into the blood stream to be used by the body. How is collagen any different than other protein in this way? If it’s all chewed up to be absorbed as amino acids into the blood stream, then any protein can provide the substrate for the skin. Or is there something unique about the collagen protein specifically?

Doc, I’m so sorry to ask su h a dumb question but what are the actual basics? Every other TikTok is some special cream I’m supposed to buy that claims to be essential, and I just don’t know what is real and what’s not in that department anymore. Please help

I see so many people supplementing with collagen peptides and I’ve never felt like it did much. I’m so glad you addressed this - now we know for sure 👍

Collagen is protein and beneficial. However, if you’re not eating enough protein everyday, your body will allocate that protein to more important organs like muscles rather than the skin 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thank you for this! I read this years ago in a bio-hacking book, but it’s always nice to hear an actual physician reinforce it. ✨

I don’t actually know if eating collagen helps my skin lol I can’t tell a difference! but what I can tell is that eating collagen helps my chronic joint pain and it’s been so noticeable I can’t even deny that it’s likely from the addition of the collagen. As far as my skin hair and nails? Idk. Can’t call it either way.
