Vibe coders who haven’t been in real SaaS don’t understand how pervasive churn is.

Sounds like a highly specific story that happened with you and doesnt apply to 99.9999% of other services

Brother, 35% monthly churn rate is crazy high. Thats a product/ product-market-fit problem. It should be around 10% annually.

SAAS business model is mostly obsolete at this point, it was somewhat viable in the ZIRP and pre-AI era but most SAAS was propped up by VC and never profitable to begin with

Solo founder I have an active app at about $21k MRR and decently high retention, margin about 55% total net preserving churn average. It's definitely a grind and not for everyone and everyday is something new to solve... I found that now using AI for the bug monitoring and clean up, having robust agents supporting clients, its kept them around longer than prior, and overall, we are still very new. Run a low price compared to your competitors that is still profitable and make it ignorant to take the time to attempt to solve it on their own and deliver results on what you promise is my 2 cents.

Got a commercial cleaning company to over 50k. Building SaaS and web products now. Software is way easier

I’m confused. Are you complaining about the cost of business? Most SaaS operations have almost ZERO overhead costs aside from api usage fees.

if you are “only” earning 100k, you MAY be better off by offering the product for free. find an investor to assist with the costs. The free aspect may lock in customers who will give you ideas to improve and scale into more functionality, and eventually offer a paid tier or sell the company to someone who wants the customers.

Do you think relational B2B SaaS has a better chance? That is my niche

You know you’re 100% correct that’s why I stoped after spending months on building a SAAS system AI integration for medium to small businesses. I saw the holes in the market and the difficulty that it would be to constantly one up Anthropic and their new user interface as they they keep rolling out every other day - the SAAS business is a trap.

i’d rather pick a more niche slower growth market then have to replace a ton of users because of high churn. it’s a customer support grind too. this is the reality especially if you’re not doing ai token math.

I agree I think for Saas you need a strong distribution moat now so it’s not an easy life style biz. I think education/ consulting is a better start
