House prices will be pushed as money shifts out of shares or business into the only exempt asset left - the family house, the biggest category of housing

If housing price growth slows to 5-7% per year then it’ll be good. But I also am sad for aspirational people

You say huge damage but can you provide some numbers atleast? Like I'm geniunely interested because I don't think the difference under the new system for a young person trying to "get ahead" and save for a house deposit with shares is going to be paying a crazy amount more tax, and if anything the marginal decrease in housing prices will balance this out anyways. These changes will for sure impact wealthy individuals way more than younger people trying to get ahead.

Exactly, the housing crisis was really misused when they tried to market these changes.

House prices might fall but not the entry level pricing , more competition will still increase the base house cost , interest rate hikes will reinforce this forcing say 1.2 million buyers into 1 million price point competing with investors and first home buyers

unless demand stops for houses and supply increases dramatically. the general market is not going to drop in value. if supply becomes readily available then everything will change. I can't see this happening in the next few years let alone in the coming weeks and months.

I guarantee Labor won't get back in, infact this next election is the most likely to result in the smallest number of seats for both of them and the liberals collectively since the 2 parties began dominanting

These tax changes are great for young people
only Greedy real estate agents, developers, financial advisors, media Oligarchs and banks don't like them.

You really don’t understand what’s been happening in the housing market over decades (and exponentially in recent years!). Private investors have completely flooded the market to build wealth and have driven up prices beyond affordability for FHB’s!! It HAD to end! Who cares if it’s grandfathered - it won’t be beneficial longer term regarding CG or NG anyway
