Ashita no Joe (Japanese: あしたのジョー, Hepburn: Ashita no Jō, lit. Joe of Tomorrow) is a Japanese boxing manga series written by Asao Takamori (pen name of Ikki Kajiwara) and illustrated by Tetsuya Chiba. It was serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine from January 1968 to May 1973, with its chapters collected in 20 tankōbon volumes. The story is set in the post-war slums of Tokyo and follows Joe Yabuki, a troubled orphan and drifter who discovers his natural talent for boxing. Under the guidance of former trainer Danpei Tange, Joe enters the world of professional boxing. His intense rivalries—particularly with fellow boxer Rikiishi Tōru—drive him forward, shaping his growth both inside and outside the ring. Known for its gritty realism, emotional depth, and social commentary, Ashita no Joe became a cultural phenomenon in Japan, influencing generations of readers and athletes alike. It is regarded as one of the most iconic and influential sports manga of all time. #joeyabuki #tomorrowjoe #edit #AshitanoJoe #anime
