Contracts should state that the estimate is based off the initial scope of work. If changes are made (including scheduling/time work restrictions unrelated to city ordinances) so does the contracted amount. It is inconvenient to have to adjust or prepare another contract but it helps insure your compensated accordingly. A suggestion to make it more convenient for yourself is to make your contract into a digital agreement and simply add a modification page. They can sign digitally as well.
