@yutokanazawa: This one is the idea from Jimmy Heath's solo on Gingerbread Boy. Cm7 F7 to Bb II V I on Bb blues. https://youtu.be/219uGHGdxzc?si=gteCK0ZxtdTRU2zI&t=117 While we work on a lot of diminished and altered scale when learning jazz, there are a lot of diatonic scale licks in the recordings of jazz legends. I will be focusing on those diatonic licks for the next lessons. This lick is really great because it forces us to work on articulations and rhythms. Trills can be either 16th notes or triplets. Harmonically speaking, there are movements inside II V I, it can be heard as F, Cm7, Dm7, Cm7, Bb F to Bb inside Cm7 F7 Bb for each 2 beats and that's the trick of playing diatonic patterns in jazz sequence. If we stick with 1 chord for 1 bar long, it might sound little too plain. I recommend to check out Jimmy Hearth's whole solo on Gingerbread Boy.
