almost all languages are build within themselves. once a compiler exists, you can then write that compiler in the language it compiles. it’s just always a version behind, technically.

Rust uses llvm which is written in c++. Basically, modern machines go Assembly -> C -> C++ and then up from there. True to this day.

C is compiled from C. For most compiled languages you first write a minimal compiler in another language that does just enough to build your first compiler. After that you build the full compiler in it's own language and iterate on that.
