Small Problem, Massive Repair 🫠 • In this video, we work on a MAN TGE equipped with the 2.0 TDI EA288 diesel engine. This vehicle is mechanically identical to the Volkswagen Crafter, which means both models commonly suffer from many of the same known mechanical problems. • This vehicle was already undergoing a major repair project involving both engine and transmission work. Because of the large amount of repairs required, the decision was made to remove the entire powertrain - engine together with the transmission - allowing all repairs to be performed more efficiently outside the vehicle. • One of the major problems discovered during inspection was excessive play in the right driveshaft where it connects to the transmission differential. This is a fairly common issue on these vehicles and occurs more often than many owners realize. • The root cause is the design of the connection between the driveshaft and the differential. Over time, dirt, moisture, road dust, and abrasive particles enter this connection and gradually wear down the internal contact surfaces. • As wear increases, excessive movement develops inside the differential connection. • The unfortunate part of this repair is that replacing only the driveshaft is not enough to solve the issue completely. The transmission differential itself must also be replaced. • Replacing the differential requires complete transmission disassembly. Under normal conditions the gearbox can be removed separately, but because this vehicle was already undergoing major engine repairs, the entire engine and transmission assembly was removed together as one unit. • In this video, we disassemble the gearbox, inspect internal components, examine the condition of the damaged differential, and demonstrate how much work is actually required to repair what initially seems like a relatively small problem. • This video clearly shows how a seemingly minor driveshaft issue can turn into a very serious transmission repair requiring extensive disassembly and significant labor. • #supermechanik #artempankovich #carservice #goldenhandsmechanic #CarRepair - @artem_pankovich
