@luna_vlab: Day 21 of surviving thermodynamics 🔥✍️ At this point, thermo starts teaching one of the most important engineering lessons: the numbers are only half the battle ⚙️ You can memorize equations all day, but if you don’t understand what the signs mean, who is doing work, where energy is going, or why a process looks the way it does on a PV diagram, the problem will find a way to humble you 🤔 Today’s piston-cylinder cycle is a perfect example. Compression, heat transfer, cycle work, and a deceptively simple diagram that hides a lot more understanding than most people realize 📝 One thing I’ve noticed about engineering classes is that the hardest problems usually aren’t the ones with the longest calculations. They’re the ones that test whether you actually understand what’s happening physically. That’s also part of what makes mechanical engineering so interesting. If you’ve ever wondered what is mechanical engineering, a lot of it comes down to understanding how energy moves, changes form, and interacts with real systems. Save this for your future thermodynamics self, your finals-week self, or the version of you that’s about to stare at a PV diagram wondering where things went wrong 📚👷 #engineeringstudent #engineeringmajor #mechanicalengineering #engineeringlife #engineeringtok

diego :
why is kinetic and potential energy ignored for a piston cylinder?

I like this kind of problems because even though they're not necessarily hard (compared to the rest of the course), they challenge is knowing where to use the information and in what formulas

because if the gas is in the compress process the pressure will go up or increase but the volume will decrease.

no the gas would leak because the picture is not air tight it's has a hole in bought side
