It was always something I couldn’t unsee that so many of the swords in Game of Thrones use pommel nuts, but it weirdly tracks for a world that has 5,000 years of continuous blacksmithing without gunpowder changing weapon and armor design.

Spring and self locking washers are also good. May not work on heavier swords with higher vibration tho

With a screwed on pommel you can also throw the pommel.

There are commercially available products that will help resist the threaded pommels vibrating loose. (Thread locker et al) Be sure to choose a flavour that allows you to service the weapon though. (if you essentially glue it shut how are you going to get it off later?) Peened tangs can be carefully ground for repairs and a new mild steel extension added to repeen the handle.
