Because it is objectively a bad thing. This has less than nothing to do with "protecting children". This is about forcing through digital ID and controlling what EVERYBODY can view. If it ever was about protecting kids, they would focus on the worst sites and apps, not just the ones that can be used to spread information.

As from January in order to use social media I’m gonna have to prove I’m over 16, once I do the government will be able to track me more effectively and efficiently, its the digital ID scheme all over again, it’s thought that these new powers with be abused and in a very authoritarian way because they always are, as such it’s likely I’ll have certain freedoms restricted depending on how I conduct myself as a citizen- atm this is all hyperbole and conjecture but there’s no reason to think the UK government won’t implement such measures

As a 27 year old now.. I remember being younger being able to access XX content as well as older people trying to meet me etc.. not to mention all the explicit content of people having heads removed by machetes 😬 best thing to happen in a long time 👏🏼

It’s the parents job to guide their children, not the governments. If it is so dangerous, why haven’t the parents already done something about it themselves? And what it actually means is, adults have to give their personal details over to prove the are adults and the internet will be even more dangerous because it is thought that children can’t access it. This is nonsense from whatever angle you look at it.
