Josie started acting from a young age, making a name for herself in shows like Jessie, Saved By The Bell, Big Mouth and Glee. In 2018, Josie wrote an essay for TIME magazine, titled ‘My Name Is Josie Totah — And I’m Ready to Be Free’ - in which she publicly came out as a trans woman. In the essay, she wrote: ‘My pronouns are she, her and hers. I identify as female, specifically as a transgender female. And my name is Josie Totah.’ Josie also opened up about her childhood, particularly around navigating her gender identity as a child star, saying: ‘Numerous reporters have asked me in interviews how it feels to be a young gay man. I was even introduced that way before receiving an award from an LGBTQ+ rights organization. I understand that they didn’t really know better. I almost felt like I owed it to everybody to be that gay boy. But that has never been the way I think of myself.’ Seven years later, Josie has gone from strength to strength, appearing in an array of films and TV shows. As well as starring in front of the camera, Josie has also worked behind it. She played ‘Lexi’ on the ‘Saved By The Bell’ reboot, and was also a producer on the show. Speaking to Variety, Josie explained that this was important for her, particularly as the show was going to delve into Lexi’s gender identity.
