Simple basic agriculture will tell you that a weed is simply any plant that is growing where it is not needed. It doesn't necessarily mean it is a bad plant, on its own.

Was shocked when I found out that blackjack plant is consumed as morogo (wild spinach) and medicine but I grew up calling it a weed. Also why is every indigenous 'spinach' called wild that adjective doesn't sit well with me
