3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, 0 points for a loss. You’ll see how that one point from a tie will pan out in someone getting knocked out in group stages…

Why do you need wins and losses? There’s a points system for a reason. In soccer, the league rewards the most consistently good team, and that includes draws. The team who accumulates the most points over the season is crowned champions, rather than a team that gets hot at the end of the season. Group stage works the same way. The team who does the best in the group stage will be rewarded with the top seed. Draws help establish that.

Yes comparing it to the NBA does make you crazy.
Soccer: low scoring, difficult to score
NBA: high scoring, easy to score
Soccer: doesn't stop, no time outs
NBA: stops frequently, has timeouts
Soccer: limited substitutions (most players don't rest)
NBA: unlimited substitutions (most players spend a good amount of time on the bench and rest)
Soccer: very large field (for FIFA 330 to 360 ft)
NBA: small court (under 100 ft)
All that to say, in soccer it's hard to break a tie and how much they run makes them fatigued which can lead to injury and a less interesting game because players are tired or good players are benched.
Bonus fact: most fans hate penalties.
