@kunsuluali: The dombra is the most important traditional musical instrument of the Kazakh people. It is a long-necked, two-stringed lute made of wood and has been played for centuries on the Great Steppe. The sound of the dombra is simple but very expressive. With only two strings, musicians can perform joyful melodies, heroic epics, and deep, emotional compositions called küy. Through these melodies, Kazakhs tell stories about history, nature, love, and the lives of their ancestors. Singing with the dombra is also an important part of Kazakh culture. Poets and singers, known as akyns, traditionally perform songs while accompanying themselves on the dombra. During these performances, they may sing folk songs, tell legends, or engage in improvisational singing competitions called aitys. For Kazakhs, the dombra is more than a musical instrument—it is a symbol of national identity, memory, and the spirit of the steppe. Even today, the sound of the dombra remains at the heart of Kazakh culture and is loved by people of all ages.
