@oliverknott2020: 🦐 Stegopontonia commensalis by 燕子 (Hainan, China) This fascinating marine shrimp is also known as the Commensal Urchin Shrimp or Whitestripe Urchin Shrimp. Unlike many “classic” shrimp, it has an extremely long, slender body that helps it move between the spines of sea urchins. Its life is closely tied to sea urchins, especially long-spined species. The shrimp uses the spines as protection from predators, while its slender body shape and bright longitudinal stripes help it blend in almost perfectly. At first glance, it can look more like a tiny purple splinter than a shrimp. #StegopontoniaCommensalis #UrchinShrimp #MarineLife #ReefCreatures #Aquarium
