If I have to pay property tax on my house, which is unrealized, they can pay taxes on their stock.

Instead of blaming the rich, blame Congress that for decades has made loopholes in the tax laws to help their rich donors and themselves get away with not paying taxes. This fault belongs to CONGRESS!

Ah, he can borrow against it. And where does the money come from to repay the loan?

So simple solution. Tax all debt taken on unrealized asset gains.

If you can’t tax gains until they’re actualized, you shouldn’t be able to borrow against them. It can’t be worth something and yet not be taxed.

Yet my property tax is based on unrealized gains, why can't they say the same to these rich folk?

So you borrow against your stock- but you have to pay back the loans- right? So where does the money come from to pay back the loans?

How does he pay this interest? Wouldn’t that require selling stock and triggering a tax?

The problem isn’t taxes collected. The problem is how government is spending that tax money.

More lies. Jeff Bezos has repeatedly sold large amounts of Amazon stock. Most public explanations point to a mix of:
* Funding Blue Origin
* Philanthropic commitments
* Diversification of his wealth away from Amazon
* Personal expenditures (homes, yacht, etc.)
* General liquidity planning
For example, Bezos has said in the past that he sold roughly $1 billion of Amazon stock per year to fund Blue Origin.
More recently:
* In 2024, he sold about $13.5 billion of Amazon stock.
* In 2025, he sold roughly another $5–6 billion.
* Career-wide, public SEC filings indicate cumulative Amazon stock sales approaching $49 billion. Over his lifetime, the answer is probably well over $10 billion in federal taxes, and possibly closer to $12–15 billion+, depending on the exact cost basis of his shares and any deductions.

1. Tax should not be punitive, it’s not a good thing but it’s necessary 2. You should cut spending before you go out and tax more 3. A tax on borrowing against assets is much better than wealth tax.

all legal. they have multiple C.P.A.s that find every loophole and credit to use. they can write off just about every single thing that they do. Elon Musk paid over 10 billion in personal tax last year.

Let's use the same formula for normal people. You buy a house for $400,000, with a mortgage of $2,000/month, throughout the years the value of the house goes up to $ 2,000,000, now you can get a secondary mortgage of $1,000,000 agaist the potential value of the house. You did not sell the house, you took a loan against the house, where does the tax comes into the formula? Trying to formulate a way this through the existing perspective is useless. The whole concept of what tax is, and how they can be logically collected with the reason need to change.

It’s called unrealized capital gains. I buy a house for $300k, live in for 20 years and now worth $500 k, I don’t pay taxes until it’s sold.
