I have a degree in political science and Abu Ghraib was never brought up in any of my classes. I only knew what it was bc I binge watch YouTube videos about international conflict with my bf. I don’t think Dean should be condemned at all for not knowing what it was. He also doesn’t frequently talk about foreign policy from what I have seen.

I'm genuinely confused why we're expecting people to remember everything that happened in a country by heart. Even worse, people have criticized me for not knowing immediately when I'm not even American. People have LIVES, educating them is fine, but don't expect everyone to know about everything.

exactly! Like, no, I don’t expect teenagers and newly young adults to know about all of these things. But if you’re an adult presenting yourself as a knowledgeable person in politics, I absolutely do. Even then, if he had just admitted in the debate that the other was right and he needed to educate himself, it would be fine. But he tried to present it as “this isn’t common knowledge and nobody knows about it anyway” to MINIMIZE IT.

Y’all know Dean isn’t perfect right? Debating serves a purpose it’s not inherently a bad thing, and he should get compensated for it. He is doing his part in a way that he can, and instead of picking apart every little thing he doesn’t do perfectly, you can pick up something that can serve a purpose in helping others as well, YOU talk about the things he doesn’t but you feel is important for ppl to know.

26, I never have heard of it until now. Grew up in Indiana, went to public up to middle school and then I got put into private for my high-school, we didnt learn this in any of our classes and the pictures ive never seen before.

I didn't know. I know now. That's how learning works. I went to an underfunded public school in a country that tried to erase that history, and I was literally 3 years old when it was in the news.
