So we finally got the maiden done of the Hongxiang Jets PNP 3.5m L39 dome today. This jet is powered by a JetCentral Mammoth 250 with a 5 liter fuel tank and a JetCentral smoke system and all JETI system… The test flight was done by our partner Mr. Ali Nasser of Hobby Track UAE. He is a calm and extremely confident pilot. Ever since we got this PNP jet we have struggled with the original gear and brake controller. We had a burnt out nose wheel retract motor. We even ended up burning out the old controller. But Pei Lin of Hongxiang sent replacements very fast. He also told us that we need to reinforce the fuselage and sent a kit. But as a PNP version all you want is to install your receiver, batteries, turbine and go. The reinforcement required to remove everything from the fuselage and kind of rebuild the whole thing from scratch. The other option was to fly it gently and not push for too much. We chose the latter and got the test flight done. Once the jet took off we saw that gear didn’t fully go up. We cycled multiple times and the gear doors kept creating issues. Our conclusion is that the gear doors are too flimsy and bend and flex when the jet take to the air and hence we get blockage of the gear etc we will either remove gear doors or try to reinforce them. We are also hopeful that the company will send us a new fuselage with reinforcement done at the factory for us to replace so that we can start doing maneuvers like loops and rolls and push the key a little further. The most amazing thing was the performance of the JetCentral turbine was simply magnificent. This is a big bird, slow, gentle and floaty.
