Everyone asked the same question. “How could a horse this beautiful end up there?” Honestly, I wondered the same thing— but there is ALWAYS a reason. He’s a stunning dapple gray Percheron. The kind of horse that turns heads the second he walks into a pen. The kind of horse people dream about owning. Now that he’s safely in quarantine, a clearer picture is starting to emerge. If you watch him closely, you’ll notice that he’s struggling to stand normally. He sways. He shifts. His balance isn’t what it should be. The signs are subtle at first, but once you see them, they’re hard to miss. It’s very clear that something neurological is going on. At this point, we don’t know exactly what we’re dealing with. We’ve already started diagnostics, including bloodwork, EPM testing, and additional evaluations to help us understand what is happening inside his body. Our suspicion is that EPM may be involved, but until the results come back, that’s all it is—a suspicion. What we do know is that there was a reason Odin ended up where he did and unfortunately, that’s a reality we see all the time. People often assume horses arrive at auctions because nobody cared. Sometimes the truth is more complicated. Sometimes there is a medical issue. Sometimes there is a diagnosis nobody can afford. Sometimes there is a problem that becomes bigger than the resources available to manage it. Whatever Odin’s story may be, he’s here now and he’s safe. Imagine how frightening it must feel when your own body isn’t responding the way it should. Imagine trying to navigate the world when your balance feels uncertain and nothing quite makes sense. That would scare any of us.
