We need Universal Basic Income because the economic model we rely on today is becoming less sustainable with every major leap in AI, automation, and robotics. Businesses are designed to maximize profits and reduce costs, and employees are treated as expenses on a balance sheet. Relying almost entirely on businesses to distribute survival through wages made sense in an industrial economy, but in an age of AI & automation driven productivity, we need systems that ensure technological progress benefits society as a whole, not just shareholders and executives.
