@felidaecentre: Dinner Time for Valentino 🦁🍖 There is something truly special about watching Valentino enjoy a meal. As the dominant male of his pride, he approaches feeding time with confidence, reminding us of the incredible predator he is. At Felidae, we feed whole carcasses whenever possible. This provides our lions with a much more natural feeding experience than processed meat alone. Whole carcasses encourage natural feeding behaviours such as tearing, pulling, chewing, and using powerful jaw and neck muscles. They also help provide important nutrients found in different parts of the animal, contributing to both physical and mental enrichment. The carcass Valentino is enjoying in these photos had been skinned before we collected it. While the skin offers additional roughage and enrichment, a skinned carcass still provides excellent nutrition and allows our lions to exercise their natural feeding instincts. Many people are surprised to learn that feeding whole carcasses is one of the best ways to promote healthy teeth, strong muscles, and natural behaviours in captive lions. It keeps feeding time interesting and helps ensure that our animals remain active and stimulated. Watching Valentino enjoy his meal is a reminder of why we are so passionate about providing the very best care for the animals that call Felidae home.
