Derek did not deserve Odette. Not by a long shot, but he fought like hell to prove that he would die doing everything he could to one day deserve her in the end. That's his singular redeeming quality and it's the only reason I accept him as a prince tbh.

Derek was not perfect at all. Dude dropped the ball SO MANY TIMES. but I think it is the fact he REALIZES his mistakes, wises up, improves himself all the while NEVER giving up on searching for her searching for the root cause of her disappearance (the warlock) and shows his vulnerability to her. he is our dream prince, because he is not perfect but ends up doing everything and anything to prove himself to Odette. that's all any of us could ever ask for.

People say he didn’t deserve her. I think he did. I think he begged her forgiveness for not understanding his love early enough. He always loved her for all her bravery her courage, her kindness, her intelligence all those things he gave her a hard time for his child with the things he loved about her. Her beauty was just a plus, but it was never the number one. He just was an idiot, and the thought of losing her made him realize all of that. And he fought to the nail to find her to think he was the cause of losing her a final time was the breaking point for him.

I believe this is the perfect romance. Odette was clever, strong, loyal, and she didn’t just stand around, waiting for him to save her, even though she knew he would. And while he fumbled, he took that accountability and he tirelessly worked to proof she was alive and show her that he really loved her. I think this really shows how love and relationships take work, and felt so real.
