About the hole above the fridge/freezer, it is for heat escape from the radiator on the back of the unit. Built-in toilets are becoming more common in new and renovated apartments.

You're not supposed to keep the lock thing closed when you're home (because of fire safety), it's only to keep potential burglars out while you're away.

The lock IS weird, the storage over the fridge is super common, every house I've lived in had had that, and lastly those flush buttons are common (and in my opinion seen as a luxury item), however it's not as common to see them in private homes.
